Samiha Khayyat is an assistant professor of energy economics at the Economics department, Faculty of Economics & Administration (FEA), King Abdulaziz University( KAU). She joined the department in June 2007 as a teaching assistant then she shortly was granted a scholarship to obtain her PhD degree at the Center for Energy, Petroleum, Minerals Law & Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee in the United Kingdom. Currently, She is the Deputy Director for Research and Development Center at KAU. She has also worked as head of Management Information Systems Department- Female Campus- at FEA. Samiha currently serves as an Adviser at the Ministry of Energy in Riyadh.
At CEPMLP, she worked under the supervision of Prof.Xiaoyi Mu to investigate the downstream petroleum refining decision and the export choice in the oil-producing countries and she was awarded the PhD degree in 2015. As a PhD candidate, she worked as a Teaching Assistant for three years, which enabled her to acquire a deep experience in academia، administrative, and technical fields related to the energy industry.
Before joining the economics department, between 2006 and 2007, she was a Branch Manager in Al-Alamiah Institute for Computer & Technology, engaged in strategic planning and coordination of the academic and administrative activities in the branch. She was the lead instructor of the English language program designed for the airport security female staff division. As a branch manager,she successfully met the standard of the International Organization for standardization (ISO) and promoted the company for an ISO verification. From 2005 to 2006, she worked as Lecturer at the University of Business and Technology (UBT)(previously College of Business Administration CBA) where she taught finance and investment modules in the finance department.
Dr Khayyat is a member of International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), Saudi Association for Energy Economics (SAEE), Energy Institute UK (EI), and Saudi Economics Association (SEA).
